An Uplifting Experience
One of the first suggestions I make to my back and neck patients is for them to adjust their sitting surface. The goal is to sit on a surface which tips their pelvis forward, slopping their thigh down so that their knees are slightly lower than their hips. The reason is because this forward pelvic tilt creates an effort-free low back arch. This arched position is the healthiest position for the discs and ligaments in your lower spine. It also keeps your spinal joints in a mid-range position, so they do not become aggravated over time.
If my patients own an expensive office chair or automobile, I encourage them to use the available tilting features to their advantage. However, most patients do not have this option in one or both of their most common sitting surfaces. For them I recommend a foam sitting wedge.
There are many of these wedges on the market today. Let me caution you, just as not all Physical Threapists are created equal, likewise not all sitting wedges are created equal. After much evaluation I have chosen to sell a product called the Tush Cush. What makes this product superior to others is that the foam is dense enough to maintain its shape when sat upon, yet is soft enough for prolonged sitting comfort. This cushion has a cut out area for your tail bone so as to further decrease compressive forces at the bottom of your spine. The Tush Cush is also equipped with a handy carrying handle for times when you want to take the cushion out somewhere, like a date to the movies or to church.
I am offering three types of Tush Cush products:
1) Tush Cush Original (3" High, 14" Deep and 18" Wide)
2) Tush Cush Extra Firm, recommended for those weighing> 200lbs. (3" High, 14" Deep and 18" Wide)
3) Car Cush, a smaller version, only available in one density. (3" High, 13" Deep and 16" Wide)
This item is shipped USPS 2-3 Day Priority Mail.
* Please note: Measure the seat you will be using the Tush Cush on before purchasing.
